In order to design an actively controlled micropump and microvalve that can be used in tissue engineering applications, the following design requirements must be taken into account [1].They must be efficient enough to be run with portable power sources for 3~5 days and fit within a ~mm size footprint.And whats more important, the dead volume of the micropump and microvalve should be as small as possible.Here the design and characterization of a low cost, small size, and low dead volume micropump which is also functionized as a reversing valve is presented.
