Iron in copper slag is in the form of iron silicate.We proposed to oxidize the iron silicate to magnetite,allowing the selective recovery of the slags iron content by magnetic separation.This proposal would effectively decrease the volume of dumped slag,and the recovered iron concentrate could be used for the future iron or steel making.The crystallization morphology of magnetite and hematite were studied as reaction products of the molten oxidation of copper slag.A gas atmosphere of 1 vol%of oxygen was found to effectively precipitate the iron in the molten slag as magnetite.
