Objective:To evaluate the biomechanical stability and clinical outcomes of stand-alone anterior lumbar interbody fusion with a PEEK cage.Materiel and methods:L5/S1 discs were removed anteriorly,a PEEK cage was inserted into the space and L4/5 discs were kept intact.Instant stability of the lumbar spines were tested in flexation,extension and lateral bending,then the specimen was subjected to 50,000 repetitive flexation-extension loads before fatigue stability was tested.34 discs in 30 patients received stand-alone ALIF via a mini-invasive approach.X-ray,VAS and Oswestry Disability Index (ODI) were adopted to evaluate postoperative outcomes.
