Cylindrical polymer brushes are a type of graft copolymer in which multiple polymer chains (side chains) are grafted to a linear polymer (backbone). The compact structure of the side chains leads to an extended backbone conformation, causing the polymer to adopt a cylindrical or wormlike structure that enables the visualization and manipulation of single macromolecules.Their nonspherical macromolecular geometries and lengths of up to a few hundred nanometers have found numerous potential applications from materials to biomedicine [1].
