The accelerating and impacting behavior of cold spray particles are investigated based onnumerical modeling. The microstructural features of cold-sprayed coatings were examined uslng Cu,Ti andZn feedstocks by scanning electron microscopy and transmission electron microscoPY tO rcveal themicrostmcture evolution mechanisms in cold spraying. It was found that through controlling of processingpaLrameters panicle velocity and temperature can be controlled. The tamping, recrystallizatlon, impactinduced fusion effects On coating microstructure were observed. The tamping effect leads to the densificationof porous cOating layer gradually and the recrystallization effect leads to the formation of fine microstucture. It was considered that the difference in formation of porous layer in coating is attributed to Particle impactvelocitv and hardenability of materials. It was also found that the impact-induced fusion during depositioncan also modifY the interracial microstructure between particles.Furthermore, the annealing treatment couldmodify the microstructure of a cold-sprayed coating.
