太阳帆航天器具有很大的面质比,利用超大面积薄膜受到的光压力作为动力,理论上无需携带推进剂.日本在2010年成功发射了IKAROS号太阳帆任务,成为世界上第一颗太阳帆任务,NASA在最近宣布将在2014年发射一颗13000平方米的大型太阳帆.太阳帆的面密度越小,太阳光压力产生的加速度越大.
