Five naturally bioactive compounds, belonging to the representative flavonoid and pentacyclic triterpenoid types were separated by liquid chromatography (LC) and analyzed on-line with negative ion electrospray ionization tandem mass spectrometry (ESI-MS/MS).The identified components in Rosa spp.of China by comparison of the retention times and mass spectrometric data with authentic standards included rutin, quercetin, kaempferol, lysionotin and oleanolic acid, the contents of which were 0.22, 3.8 and 45 μg/g of dry weight in rose hips, respectively.Each compound was investigated by ESI-MS/MS.The obtained MSn spectra allowed us to further understand their structural characterization.
