A dimensionless two-phase two-channel model is used to derive upstream and downstream light-off criteria for the Diesel Particulate Filter (DPF) regeneration.The analytical predictions are in good agreement with simulation results.Upstream ignition usually requires higher inlet temperature than the downstream ignition.However, an upstream ignition can always be obtained by a proper design of the channel and choice of the operating variables.By combining the criteria and heat transfer characteristics, we can identify the operating conditions decreasing the peak regeneration temperatures.An analysis of the impact of DPF substrate on light-off, front propagation and peak temperature is presented.
