The chemical constituents of essential oils isolated from 5 Cinnamomum spp.(C.impressicostatum, C.pubescens, C.microphyllum, C.rhyncophyllum, C.zeylanicum) were evaluated and tested for their antifungal activity against 5 dermatophytes (Trichophyton rubrum, T.mentagrophytes, Microsporum canis, M.gypseum, M.audouini) and 4 strains of yeasts (Candida albicans, C.tropicalis, C.glabrata and Crytococcus neoformans).The major constituent of the bark and twig of C.rhyncophllum, C.pubescens and C.impressicostatum were methyl(E)-cinnamate, while for C.zeylanicum the major constituents was cinnamaldehyde.For the leaves oils, benzyl benzoate were the major constituents in all species studied except for C.zeylanicum where eugenol appears as the major constituents.The antifungal activities of 12 standard compounds which exist as the major constituents in Cinnamomum oils were also studied in order to correlate the effectiveness of the oils with those of the components of the oils for antifungal activities.
