We have studied on the application of novel sensor technologies in slope real-time monitoring. We conducted a laboratory model experiment to determine the position of the potential slip surface by the maximum displacement increment points measured by the inclinometers based on fiber Bragg grating(FBG).The results were verified by Particle Image Velocimetry(PIV)technique.A low-cost and simple early warning system based on Micro Electro Mechanical Systems(MEMS)of monitoring rainfall-induced landslides is introduced. It is proposed that a precaution for slope failure be issued at the tilting rate of 0.01°/h,and warning of slope failure be issued at the rate of 0.1°/h based on several case studies. This early warning system has been applied to the slopes at Kaohsiung,Taiwan and Yamanashi,Japan and have achieved good monitoring effect.
