汤显祖在《牡丹亭题词》提出的“至情说”是解读汤氏思想、评骘《牡丹亭》艺术的重要依据。然而前贤时哲多从爱情角度入手,极力称赞丽娘爱情观念对传统理学的突破意义,却对丽娘复生情节颇有微词,认为丽娘复生体现了爱情与理学的妥协,削弱了丽娘的反抗精神。实际上汤氏“至情说”是一个哲学概念,包含历史、思想、政治三重解读维度,丽娘爱情观只是“至情说”
