Now it is recognized that iron is one of the limiting factors for primary production in many oceanic regions.Several other trace metals also play crucial roles in cell physiology and in biochemical reactions of marine organisms, and their supply is therefore thought to control the structure and, possibly, the productivity of marine ecosystems. When we understand the present oceanic biogeochemical cycles and forecast the future global change,it is essential to incorporate the role of trace metals into ecological models in the ocean.Nevertheless, the basic parameters concerning the trace metals in marine ecosystems have been accumulated mainly based on the incubation experiments.
