铁路是国民经济的大动脉,是交通运输的主干,是我国“四化”建设的先行。铁路承担全国旅客总周转量的60%左右,货物总周转量的70%左右。为了确保2000年工农业总产值比1980年翻两番,人民物质文化生活达到小康水平的战略目标的实现,铁路客货运量将会成倍增长,据预测2000年铁路客货运量将分别达到25亿人次及25亿吨,客货周转量将分别为7500亿人公里及17500亿吨公里。根据运量分布规律,将有约70%的客货周转量集中在占铁路网总长度30%的主要干线上,因此,这些主要干线的客货运密度将比1980年增加1.5倍至2.0倍。
The railway is the main artery of the national economy, the backbone of transportation and the first of its kind in our country’s “four modernizations”.
