Adipose tissue is known to secrete various proteins that are recognized to play and important role in metabolism of carbohydrate,proteins and lipids.Many of these collectively called adipokines including adiponectin,leptin,resistin,tumor necrosis factor (TNF)-α.Amongst them,leptin and adiponectin play a key role in energy homeostasis and metabolism.Leptin achieves most of its metabolic effects by the interacting with specific receptors located in the hypothalamus.Adiponectin is a 244 amino acid proteins secreted from only the adipose tissue,and plays and insulin-sensitizing role in glucose and lipid metabolism of adipocytes,skeletal myocyte,and hepatocytes.
