A Carbon Filter Process (CFP) captures CO2 on a carbonaceous sorbent that requires no compression or refrigeration.Such a sorbent is CO2-philic and hence uniquely selective at near ambient temperatures,easy to keep at constant sorption temperature,and easy to regenerate,because its heat of sorption is low.CFP allows for flexible recovery (up to at least 90%) and flexible purity (up to at least 95%).This technology is being scaled-up for pilot tests at two coal-fired power plants in spring 2010.This talk will focus on sorbent regeneration,for example steam-aided-vacuum regeneration,and sorbent preparation and characterization,illustrated with data for newly synthesized carbon sorbents that point the crucial role of small pores of the order of 1 nm or less.
