Thiazide-sensitive NaCl cotransporter (NCC) is expressed in the apical membrane of the distal convoluted tubule (DCT) which is responsible for the reabsorption of 5-9 ％filtered Na load.The loss-of-function mutations of NCC cause Gitelmans syndrome characterized by salt wasting and hypokalemia.
