The World Health Organisation estimates that one in every three cancers world-wide is a skin cancer and that between 2-3 million non-melanoma skin cancers and 132,000 cutaneous melanomas arise each year.In addition to the high mortality from melanoma, significant morbidity and healthcare costs arise from screening, diagnosis and treatment of this tumour as well as from both types of non-melanoma skin cancer (i.e.basal cell carcinoma and squamous cell carcinoma).
