Objective This study was to investigate the antimicrobial resistance of Pseudomonas aeruginosa isolated in 5 consecutive years in a tertiary hospital in China. Methods Disk diffusion test was used to study the antimicrobial resistance. The data were analyzed by WHONET 5 software according to Clinical and Laboratory Standards Institute (CLSI).Results Most of 1932 strains ofP.aeruginosa were collected from sputum 940 (48.7%), secretions and pus 315 (16.3%), urine 299 (15.5%) during the past 5 years. The resistance rates of P.aeruginosa for piperacillin, ticarcillin/clavulanic acid, ampicillin/sulbactam, trimethoprim/sulfamethoxazole, cefotaxime, ceftriaxone and gentamicin were almost more than 50%.The resistance rates for imipenem, meropenem, piperacillin/tazobactam, cefoperazone/sulbactam, ceftazidime, cefepime, amikacin ciprofloxacin, levofloxacin and gatifloxacin were shown a relative low, however, they were almost more than 30% with a substantial increase during 5 years in the tertiary hospital. The antimicrobial resistance of P.aeruginosa had increased in recent 5 years. Conclusion The change of the antimicrobial resistance should be investigated in order to direct rational drug usage in the tertiary hospital and prevent bacterial strain of drug resistance from being transmitted.
