The Old World Anopheles hyrcanus(Hyrcanus)group of mosquitoes is an extremely complex species. This group includes about 30 closely related species with a distribution covering the Palaearctic and Oriental regions, among which some species are important vectors of malaria parasites and other mosquito-borne diseases. In this study, comparison of sequences of ITS2 of ribosomal DNA(rDNA)and mitochondrial NADH dehydrogenase subunit 5(ND5)from five species of the Hyrcanus group in China has been used to decipher their phylogenetic relationships and genetic differentiation.
